Monroe County Public Library – Southwest Branch

Location:

BRCJ worked with the Matheu Architects on Monroe County’s newest branch library, on Gordon Pike, adjacent to Batchelor Middle School.  Starting with the evaluation of numerous different locations around the south part of Bloomington, our engineering group ultimately helped to select the site and shape the project blend with its surroundings, both now and into the future:

  • Completed topographic and boundary surveys of the site, describing and documenting a subdivision negotiated between MCCSC and MCPL.
  • Prepared site layout and amphitheater to integrate with existing natural features and preserve woodland.
  • Developed grading and drainage plans to accommodate steep grades across the existing site, in addition to future build-out of Gordon/Fullerton Pike, currently under construction by Monroe County Highway Department.
  • Designed underground storm detention and bioretention systems to control stormwater quality and quantity leaving the site.
  • Prepared landscape design to incorporate native plantings and green infrastructure.
  • Coordinated with Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing consultants to develop complete utility infrastructure to support the new facility, including domestic water service, fire protection, sanitary sewer, natural gas, and electrical.
